How the Mettler-Toledo site in Nänikon, Switzerland, brings together repeatably exact precision machining, flexible batch sizes, long-term production autonomy, permanent availability and thus high economic efficiency with the help of a highly automated 5-axis machining center from the CHIRON Group.
The core expertise of SHW in machining is the µm-accurate production of complex milled and turned parts for oil pumps through to the finish on highly precise systems. The components are machined on a CHIRON 15 Series, among others. If these need to be prepared for new tasks, SHW also relies on the expertise of the CHIRON Group – using retrofits from the service experts.
Based in the southeastern German town of Fridolfing, the Rosenberger company has risen from a locksmith's shop to a global player in just 60 years and two family generations. The high-end processes in individual part production also require a high level of dynamics. And in this regard, five axis machining centers from the CHIRON Group are setting the pace.
The Siemens electric motor plant in Bad Neustadt serves as a model factory for the digitalization of machining centers. With the double spindle DZ 25 P machining center from the CHIRON Group, together with the possibilities offered by virtual simulation and programming, set-up times can be reduced and output increased.
For 18 years, the supplier Gerdt GmbH has been relying on STAMA mill-turn centers for complete machining. As a result, the machining experts in automated production of precision components have also developed a unique selling point for small batch sizes.
The systems that SW-MOTECH needed weren't available on the market. They needed a suitable robot and clamping concept to use automation to produce a variety of around 400 different parts in batch sizes of 30 to 200. For example, this was the case with medical technology company Smith & Nephew's new production site in Penang, Malaysia, where precision manufacturing of knee and hip prostheses is to begin at a facility measuring 250,000 square meters in early 2023. GF Casting Solutions in Altenmarkt (Austria) ensures maximum productivity with the CHIRON DZ 25 P. Clamping high-pressure die-cast components, as well as aluminum and magnesium components, is a key step in manufacturing at automotive supplier GF Casting Solutions. Structural components, powertrain and steering components need to be manufactured reliably and economically in large batch sizes. The new, DZ 25 P twin-spindle machining center from the CHIRON Group, developed and tested in cooperation with the GF Casting Solutions high-pressure die-casting site, is making an important contribution to this.
The machining quality of a
workpiece depends on the machine, the tools, and the cooling lubricant,
although less attention is usually paid to the latter. The concentration might
be too high, too low, or not maintained; the temperature might fluctuate – all
of which can clearly be seen in the machining results. To keep the emulsion
just right and supply it continuously to machines, the CHIRON Group is
collaborating with the MOTOREX AG. The system created by the Swiss lubricant
specialist ensures continuous monitoring, dispensing, and maintenance.
Moreover, it can be fully incorporated into ConditionLine, the automatic
condition monitoring tool of the CHIRON Group's SmartLine portfolio.

Contract manufacturer BAM GmbH
in Weiden, in the Upper Palatinate region of Germany, is anything but standard–
a corner stone of its success. The company pioneers time-saving and cost-saving
digital processes, promises 24/7 operation, offers machining, 3D printing, sheet-metal
machining, and more. And the firm is growing at pace.
In KettenWulf's milling shop, different chain plates made from high-tensile, fine-grained steel must be machined in batches of 50 to 1,500 parts. This may not be the preferred number of units for STAMA machines, but STAMA's machining centers appeal because of their speed – in both cutting and assembly.
